This is an original Aldis Aircraft Signalling Lamp dated 1943 with a box and two spare bulbs.

More correctly called, “Lantern Portable, Signalling” we all know these as the “Aldis” Lamp.
Used by the Royal Navy and conforming to Admiralty Pattern 5110.D, the lamp projected a light from a 35w bulb, interrupted to create Morse. They did however see extensive use with ground forces and at RAF stations and in RAF aircraft where they were used for communicating within the bomber stream or with surface vessels

ALDIS lamp used for Naval Daylight Signalling. Using a 12 Volt – 36 Watt bulb and a swivelling concave mirrored reflector, the Aldis Lamp is used for sending messages in morse code.

These lamps were also used by the RAAF.

An interesting piece of kit to add to your collection.
